More than 150 professionals from both government and the private sector have been certified to detect, prevent, and combat financial and procurement fraud following an intensive three-day fraud examination symposium in Paynesville. The training, hosted by the Liberia Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), Chapter #198, brought together certified fraud examiners, auditors, lawyers, financial investigators, compliance officers, bankers, and law enforcement professionals.

Held at the Paynesville City Hall from November 27 to December 2, 2025, the conference focused on strengthening national capacity to identify fraud risks and enhance accountability systems. During the training, participants were drilled through critical sessions on integrating fraud risks into enterprise risk management, as well as identifying red flags and fraud schemes within procurement and asset management.

ACFE Liberia Chapter President, Augustine G. Chenoway, described the newly certified group as a “vital chain in Liberia’s accountability network,” emphasizing that each participant now plays a crucial role in safeguarding transparency and ethical leadership across their respective institutions. He said, “We are excited that today we have more people sharpening their skills on fraud,” he told journalists. We anticipate improvement in their work and stronger efforts in arresting and combating fraud. Liberia is a developing country, yes, but we must invest in technical skills and digital systems to effectively address these issues.”

Also, Certified Fraud Examiner and auditor Janet Jackson lauded the organizers, describing the symposium as transformative. “On behalf of my colleagues, we express deep appreciation for the training. It was truly mind-blowing. We now have the knowledge, skills, and techniques to identify, combat, and arrest financial and procurement fraud,” Madam Jackson narrated.

The certification marks a significant boost to Liberia’s growing fight against corruption, reinforcing the collective push for stronger oversight and improved governance in public and private institutions.
