The Liberian Senate has initiated an investigation into the proposed reduction of Paramount, Clan, and General Town Chiefs in Sinoe County, following a request from Senator Crayton O. Duncan. Senator Duncan is questioning the justification behind the proposed cuts of 72%, 71%, and 59% to the number of Paramount, Clan, and General Town Chiefs, respectively.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. F. Sakila Nyumalin, had requested the Superintendent of Sinoe County, Hon. Alexander N. Sleweon, to implement these reductions and submit the adjustments by December 5, 2025. In his communication to the Senate, Senator Duncan expressed concerns about the potential impact of these reductions on the traditional governance structure and the people of Sinoe County.

He called for the Minister of Internal Affairs to justify the proposed cuts, citing the need to protect the interests of the county and its citizens. The Senate’s Plenary has unanimously instructed its Committees on Internal Affairs and Ways, Means, Finance and Budget to investigate the matter and report their findings within two weeks.

The committees will review the proposal and engage relevant authorities to determine the rationale behind the proposed reductions. The investigation aims to shed light on the matter and ensure that the interests of the county and its citizens are protected. The outcome of the probe is expected to inform the Senate’s next steps on the issue.
