The Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) has clarified misinformation surrounding its ongoing connection of 2,500 new households in Montserrado County, stating that claims that beneficiaries will receive free water for two to three months are false and misleading.  According to a recent release, the Corporation emphasized that the project is not a free water scheme, as millions are invested in purifying and transporting water from White Plains through pipelines.  Beneficiaries will have meters installed and must pay per consumption.

This initiative was launched on July 1, 2025, and forms part of the Liberia Urban Resilience Project (LURP), a six-year partnership between the Government of Liberia and the World Bank to enhance urban planning, climate resilience, and access to basic services.  According to the release, while the World Bank is funding materials such as pipes, fittings, and meters, beneficiaries are required to begin paying for the service immediately upon connection, as several communities, including Rock Hill, Duport Road, GSA Road, and Tweh Farm, already benefiting.
