In a remarkable demonstration of its commitment to education and social development, Orange Foundation has donated 400 school backpacks and 132 notebooks to the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection. The initiative targets underprivileged children in Monrovia, aiming to enhance learning opportunities and support the country’s educational transformation.
The donation ceremony, held at the Orange Digital Center, brought together officials from the Ministry, education advocates, and representatives of the Orange Foundation. The project is part of the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of children and broaden access to quality education across Liberia. Speaking during the handover, Uomah Walterspoon, Senior Manager of the Orange Foundation, highlighted the Foundation’s dedication to educational transformation.
“Education is the cornerstone of national development, and as a leading private institution, Orange Liberia recognizes its responsibility to contribute to building a brighter future for our children. This donation is a testament to our commitment to supporting the government’s efforts in ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, has access to the tools they need to learn and succeed,” Madam Walterspoon said.
She further emphasized that the initiative aligns with national priorities, noting that as President Joseph Boakai continues to champion the cause of education in Liberia, partnerships between the government and private sector institutions are vital to achieving sustainable educational development. Receiving the school supplies on behalf of the Ministry, Deputy Minister of Children, Garmai Tokpah, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the collaboration.
“This donation marks an important milestone in our ongoing efforts to reach children who face educational barriers. The school backpacks and notebooks will be carefully distributed to ensure they directly benefit those in need. Orange Liberia’s support is a powerful example of how private sector involvement can complement government initiatives to transform the lives of children,” Deputy Minister Tokpah stated.
The Ministry confirmed that the donated items will be properly managed and distributed to ensure that every child receives the materials necessary to enhance their learning experience. The contribution by the Orange Foundation not only alleviates immediate educational needs but also strengthens the broader mission of promoting equitable access to education for all children in Liberia.
This initiative reflects the Orange Foundation’s long-standing commitment to social responsibility and community development. Through its programs, the Foundation continues to implement interventions that positively impact vulnerable populations, particularly in education, health, and digital empowerment. By supporting the next generation of Liberian children, the Orange Foundation is helping to lay the foundation for a more educated, empowered, and prosperous nation
