The Management of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) says it has not entered into any agreement to establish a gaming center at its Paynesville premises. According to a press release issued on November 12, 2025, the Management disclosed that Blue Star High Tech Liberia Limited, a duly registered gaming company, had only requested to use the LBS Theater to conduct its daily live draw—a service for which payment would be made to the System. The State Broadcaster’s clarification comes in the wake of a communication sent to the Liberian Senate by Bomi County Senator Edwin M. Snowe, claiming that gambling was taking place at L.B.S.
Senator Snowe called on his colleagues to probe the reported agreement and establishment of a gambling center within the premises of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS). In a communication on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Senator Snowe said credible reports indicate that the Liberia Broadcasting System has reportedly agreed with Blue Star Hi-Tech Liberia Limited, a gambling company operating in Liberia.
He said this development raises serious concerns regarding the moral standing, institutional integrity, and public image of the nation’s premier broadcasting entity, which is financed by the National Government and serves as a vital platform for national communication, education, and entertainment.
“In view of the sensitivity of this matter, and the need to safeguard the integrity of the LBS, I respectfully request that the plenary mandates the Senate’s Committee on Information, Broadcasting and Cultural Affairs to conduct a full-scale investigation into the alleged agreement between LBS and said gambling company,” he requested. According to him, if the matter remains unchecked, it could erode public trust in one of the nation’s most important communication institutions.
However, LBS clarified that the arrangement was intended to enhance revenue generation and operational efficiency within the framework of the System’s statutory mandate.
The Management disclosed that the decision to allow the company’s live draw to be carried out from the LBS Theater was based on a strategy to reduce the daily cost of transporting technical equipment and manpower to the company’s facilities in Sinkor. The Management maintained that at no point was there a formal agreement signed for the establishment of any gaming center at the LBS premises.
“In its statement issued Wednesday, the Management of LBS expressed surprise that such a request for use of the Theater could be misinterpreted as a formal partnership agreement, noting that no document or memorandum exists to support such a claim”, the release stated. LBS is reminding the public that its Act empowers it to enter into, perform, and modify contracts, leases, and agreements with both public and private entities, provided such actions are within the confines of the law.
LBS reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and professionalism in all of its operations, as it continues to work toward generating forty percent (40%) of revenue prescribed by law. The Management has assured the public that ELBC Radio and LNTV remain the nation’s premier public service broadcasters, committed to truth, accuracy, and the highest standards of ethical journalism.
