Presidential Press Secretary Kula N. Fofana has dismissed mounting criticisms against President Joseph N. Boakai’s frequent foreign trips, asserting that the visits are part of a broader diplomatic mission to reposition Liberia globally, not for personal pleasure. Speaking during the Executive Mansion’s regular press briefing on Friday, November 7, 2025, Fofana characterized those questioning the purpose and outcomes of the President’s travels as “regular critics” who often overlook the strategic benefits of such engagements.
“There will always be critics. When Presidents travel, they don’t return with bags of money to distribute among citizens. These visits are meant to strengthen ties, attract investment, and advocate for Liberia’s place on the international stage,” she added. The Press Secretary narrated that President Boakai’s trips are essential for advancing his administration’s development agenda, saying, “When you become President, it becomes imperative to introduce your agenda to the world and seek support for it. The President travels to engage partners, not for recreation or sightseeing, certainly not to attend football games.
According to her, diplomacy and international lobbying remain crucial tools for national progress, urging Liberians to exercise patience as the outcomes of such engagements unfold over time. Fofana assured the public that the President’s travels are guided by national interest, transparency, and the desire to secure tangible benefits for Liberia’s future.
