Pressure seems to be mounting on Labour Ministry Inspector General, Charles Brown over a trending social media video in which he is seen allegedly manhandling a Chinese investor, forcing him into the back of a pickup truck, and taking him to an unknown destination.

In a letter to Foreign Minister, Sara Below Nyantee, a group under the banner of ”Citizens Movement to Protect Foreign Investors in Liberia (CIMPIL),” said that as a national movement with the mandate to protect vital foreign companies in Liberia, it calls on the Foreign Minister to immediately launch an investigation into the veracity of the social media video, which it described as ‘troubling,’ and ‘institute appropriate legal and administrative reprimands against Labour Inspector General Brown.

According to a release dated November 8, 2025, CIMPIL stated in its letter to Foreign Minister Nyantee, with copies addressed to Chinese Ambassador Yin Chengwu, Justice Minister Cllr. Oswald Tweh, United States Charge ‘d’ Affairs, Joe Zadrony, and Labour Minister Cllr. Cooper Kraus, that while the government was making tremendous strides in realigning Liberia’s deteriorated diplomatic image to encourage investment and create economic viability for the citizens, the gross abuse of a foreign Investor, allegedly by a Labour Ministry official, could prove counterproductive and undermine these achievements if not put to immediate check.

CIMPIL’s letter of complaint was dated November 4, signed by the National Secretary General, Johnson Mulbah, and approved by the General Coordinator, Trokon Thomas, respectively. The organization expressed outrage over the content of the trending social media video, which clearly shows Inspector General Brown, backed by his aides, brutally assaulting the Chinese investor, placing him into a pickup truck, and whisking him away.

“CIMPIL expressed serious concerns about the whereabouts, physical wellbeing and safety of the Chinese Investor since the gruesome incident over two weeks ago; thus demanding the Government to probe the incident and set precedent against wanton misuse of public office and resources to create an unstable investment climate that undermines Liberia’s foreign Diplomatic relations, economic growth and job creation,” the release concluded.
