The Public Account Committee of the House of Representatives is currently reviewing a proposal from Nimba County District 7 Representative Musa Bility to broaden the scope of the ongoing legislative audit to include 2018 through 2021. Representative Bility warned that the current 2022–2024 timeframe falls short of the transparency the Liberian people deserve.
In a communication, the Nimba representative said limiting the audit to the last three years, I risks undermining the credibility of the process. “The House of Representatives has not undergone any formal audit for several decades. The years 2018 to 2021 are particularly important for any meaningful assessment of the House’s financial operations,” Bility wrote.
He said omitting those years would significantly undermine the credibility and completeness of the process. Bility also noted that expanding the audit to cover 2018 through 2025 would not only bolster public trust but also reaffirms the Legislature’s role as a guardian of good governance and fiscal accountability.
