Members of the disabled community are calling on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to dismiss the head of the Commission on Disability, Samuel Dean, for alleged mismanagement of the commission’s funds. They also claimed that Dean has neglected them. ‎Speaking to reporters in Monrovia on Wednesday, October 22, Joseph Kerkulah, spokesperson of the protesters said since Dean took over the institution, things have become difficult for them and their families and the commission is doing nothing to improve their living conditions.

‎Kerkulah highlighted several issues, including the lack of funding for essential programs, inadequate access to resources, and neglect of people living with disability.  He claimed that many individuals with disabilities are struggling to access basic services, such as healthcare and education due to the commission’s mismanagement.

‎The protest, which took place in front of the Executive Mansion, saw a large turned out of disabled individuals. Protesters are demanding transparency in the commission’s financial dealings, urging the government to take immediate action to address their concerns. ‎”We are tired of empty promises and neglect. We deserve better. The government must listen to our voices and take our plight seriously,” Kerkulah lamented. The group is also demanding a thorough investigation into the commission’s financial activities and the implementation of measures to ensure that funds are used effectively to support the disabled community.
