The Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) has issued a special statement regarding the recent Spoon TV incident involving its Global Chair, Dr. Francine Chenoweth Richardson, and Madam Jackie McKay, which occurred during a live broadcast.
In a release issued in Monrovia on Thursday, September 4, 2025, the CMC stated that it had carefully reviewed the incident and, after a thorough assessment, in accordance with its code of conduct, the Movement found it necessary to clarify its position.
“The CMC holds that the remarks made by Dr. Richardson toward Madam Mckay were profane, inappropriate, and inconsistent with the values and principles for which we stand. Liberia is at a defining moment in its democratic journey. As a political movement committed to genuine transformation, we firmly believe that change must begin with how we engage one another, especially in public discourse,” the party said. According to the release, while differences of opinion are natural in a democracy, they must be expressed with respect, dignity and civility. Therefore, the Movement categorically regards the action of its Global Chairperson as unacceptable and regrettable.
On behalf of its leadership and membership worldwide, the CMC extended an apology to Madam Jackie McKay, the Spoon TV Network, the viewing and listening public, supporters, and the Liberian people. “We trust that Dr. Richardson will act differently and more appropriately in any such circumstance going forward,” the CMC release said.
During the heated argument between Dr. Richardson and Madam Mckay, the CMC Global Chair was heard calling McKay names and using invectives that quickly spread throughout social media and became a major discussion among citizens, with some backing the action of the CMC Global Chair. At the same time, some condemned her for being disrespectful to a fellow woman.
