The Head of the Bong County Principals Association, Philip Lepolu Mulbah, has called on the Unity Party-led government to rename the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) to the Anti-Drugs Enforcement of Liberia (ADEL), as part of efforts to combat substance abuse.

He spoke during the celebration of Liberia’s 178th Flag Day in Gbarnga, organized by the Ministry of Education, with support from Bong County Authorities. Mr. Mulbah said the proposed change would represent a stronger stance against drug abuse and serve as a warning to traffickers. He argued that the rebranding would be both symbolic and practical, showing Liberia’s determination to protect its youth from the devastating effects of narcotics.

He warned that drugs in schools threaten national development by undermining young people’s focus on education and their future careers. He stressed the need for schools to remain safe spaces for growth and discipline, urging policymakers, administrators, and community leaders to ensure drug-free learning environments.

The award-winning teacher also called on students to respect their teachers and encouraged parents to work closely with schools to tackle drug abuse. Parents attending the Flag Day programme echoed his concerns, highlighting the growing impact of drugs on academic performance and discipline.

Mr. Mulbah recommended that the government introduce regular drug inspections in schools nationwide. He cautioned that if stronger action is not taken, Liberia risks losing a generation of young people to addiction, crime, and hopelessness.
