The Government of Liberia has commended residents of Saye Town Community for their support in the fight against drugs. Speaking at the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing on Thursday, August 14, 2025, Deputy Minister for Public Affairs, Daniel Sando expressed appreciation for the community’s involvement in this initiative. He praised their non-violent approach, stating that the government cannot tackle this issue alone.

Sando reiterated the government’s commitment to combating drug-related problems in the country, emphasizing that no status, uniform, or other factors will deter them. “We must send a clear message: there is no room in Liberia for the trafficking, sale, or use of illegal drugs,” he declared.

He noted that President Joseph Nyumah Boakai has announced robust measures to address drug-related crimes; however, community involvement is crucial. He reminded everyone that drug trafficking, distribution, and sales are non-bailable offenses in Liberia. Additionally, Deputy Minister Sando highlighted a troubling trend of citizens attacking law enforcement officers, which is increasing and concerning.  He emphasized that Liberia is a democratic society, and citizens must remember that law enforcement officers have a constitutional duty to uphold the law.

He referred to a recent viral video that depicted a clergywoman allegedly physically assaulting a police officer. He stated that a police officer’s uniform symbolizes the authority of the state, granting them the legal right to enforce the law and establish probable cause. Assaulting officers undermines law and order.

Sando pointed out that assaults on police officers often receive less media attention compared to accusations of officer misconduct. He urged the media to report on these assaults to help the public understand that such behavior is unacceptable. Sando concluded by calling on Liberians to contribute to building a country where the rights of citizens are respected, while also ensuring that the rights and dignity of law enforcement personnel are protected.

Video footage showed a lady identified as Klady Paul hitting her fingers on the face of a police officer in an aggressive manner while the officer was performing his duty but the officer remained calm throughout woman’s aggression.
