President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has expressed frustration over the manner and form in which natural minerals are leaving the country.
Speaking Monday, March 3, 2025 during the first cabinet meeting for 2025, held at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia, the President said that there are many leakages, most especially in Liberia’s mineral resources. According to him, there are a lot of mineral resources leaving Liberia unofficially through the Robert International Airport (RIA).
He narrated that if the government has to take a radical move to make sure these things are stopped, it should inspect the Robert International Airport.
“The minerals are what we depend on to develop this country; we are not going to allow people to take that lightly,” President Boakai said. President Boakai said, as a president he is concerned about the pending inspection at RIA as the country increases flights on a daily basis.
The President stated that there are plans to put supervision in place as to how things leave the country through the airport, adding that the government is committed to ensure that the country’s resources will affect the lives of the citizens.
Meanwhile, the president has admitted to challenges facing the country, but said that there are plans by the government to resolve them.
He said Liberians have suffered and are still suffering in the country; thus it is about time they (Liberians) get the opportunity to enjoy their country’s resources.
President Boakai revealed that infrastructure is the government’s most commitment to Liberia. “With infrastructure, we will be able to open up the country and have more money to pay in terms of health, amongst others,” he asserted.
President Boakai called on ministers to prioritize the work of the Liberian people or resign if their focus is on the 2029 elections. “If your focus is on 2029, you may respectfully resign. My priority is serving the Liberian people right now,” he added.
