Nimba County District #5 Representative Samuel G. Kogar on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, submitted two bills seeking the establishment of an Act to Create a Monthly and Probate Court and an Act to Create a Labor Court in Nimba County.

Representative Kogar, in a communication to Plenary said, the establishment of the probate court is consistent with Article 65 of the 1986 Constitution of the Republic of Liberia which vests the Legislature the power to create courts amongst others.

He said the creation of a vibrant and efficient probate court in a hugely populated county like Nimba is necessary to address the reduction of land related disputes growing out of land ownership.

The Nimba County Representative said the need for a probate court in Nimba is overwhelming and would play a pivotal role in stabilizing and enhancing national peace.

“Nimba County serves as a melting point for trade and other human transactions not limited to human trafficking given its huge population, as well as its proximity with other neighboring countries,” he said.

He said the importance of establishing a Labor Court in the county stands from the foundation of Nimba being a major player in the mining sector along with the increase in trade and employment.

Kogar told the Plenary that the establishment of a vibrant labor court in the county with a huge population and growing industrial sector comes with more labor cases. “Per the growing labor cases and with the single circuit court that is overburdened with criminal and civil cases, the creation of a labor court would bring industrial harmony and further enhance relations between employers and employees, and promote the labor industry in Nimba County,” Representative Kogar said.

He said the resource of the county is heavily based in its natural resources such as timber, iron ore, gold and diamond, adding that the county trades with Guinea and Ivory Coast and this significantly contributes to the Liberian Economy.
