The Senate Chairman on Ways, Means, Finance and Budget and Bong County Senator Prince K. Moye has disclosed that the budget of the Legislature has been reduced from US$53million in 2024 budget to US$42million in 2025 National Budget.

Senator Moye made the disclosure Tuesday, January 21, 2025, when each Senator was allotted two minutes to comment on their experiences over the break and on their respective committees’ works.

According to Senator Moye, despite an increase in the 2025 National Budget of US$880m, the Senate took the decision to reduce the Legislature budget by US$6m in order to enhance transparency and accountability in the effective execution of a program-based budget.

He attributed this decrease in the Legislature’s budget to the proactive stewardship of Senate Pro Temp Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence. The oversight committee Chairman disclosure is based on public perception that the Legislature continues to increase its allocations in every budget year.

Senator Moye added that Pro-Temp Lawrence has stressed the need for openness in the budget process in order to enable citizens to have hands-on information about the national budget in order to avoid misinformation about allocations to the Legislature and other public entities.

Meanwhile, Senator Moye has further clarified that an amount of US$3.4million was approved on the Senate’s committee line, and there is no US$9.5million as outturn for the committee’s line.
