On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, President Joseph N. Boakai commissioned over ninety-eight government officials after being confirmed by the Liberian Senate. Some of the government officials commissioned during the ceremony that took place at the EJS Ministerial Complex include Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh, Minister of Commerce, Amb. Lewis Brown II, Ambassador/ Permanent Representative of Liberia to the United States of America, Amb. Genevieve A. Kennedy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Permanent Representative of Liberia to the Court of St. James, Amb. Dr. Teeko Tozay Yorlay Sr., Ambassador Extraordinary and Permanent Representative of Liberia to the Republic of France, amongst others.
President Boakai said being appointed to serve in a government is not a right, but a privilege and that those commissioned were selected to serve the people and the country at large. “This is a responsibility that God has given us; we should be grateful that we have been selected to carry on a task,” he said. According to him, the most important responsibility as an official of government is to make the country a better place, urging them to think, love and build Liberia. “Those of you who have chosen public service, work to make life better for the people, your children and children unborn,” Boakai said.
The Liberian leader encouraged commissioned officials to create love, commitment and honesty for the country while applauding international partners for their support and encouragement towards the government.
President Boakai: “As we take our oath today, we must be thankful for the opportunity to serve, but recognize the stewardship and responsibility to build this nation for our people.”
For her part, the Minister of Commerce Dagoseh thanked the President for his confidence reposed in them as government officials, describing their appointments as a huge responsibility.
Minister Dagoseh said as government officials they are aware that the success of the government doesn’t depend only on their individual competency, but on the collective strength of their collaboration. “As ministries, we are united in one mission and vision to contribute to the advancement of the agenda and Liberia at large,” she said.
The Minister described Boakai’s leadership as a beacon of hope, integrity and progress, saying that under the guidance of the Boakai-Koung leadership, Liberia will move forward in the pursuit of social, political and economic development. She said President Boakai’s vision for a better Liberia is one that has inspired others; adding, “As we take our oath of office, we recommit ourselves to that vision.”
