River Cess County District #2 Representative Steve Tequah has accused Senator Wellington Geevon-Smith of fueling disunity within the county’s Legislative Caucus.

Speaking recently, Representative Tequah said that the ongoing division among members of the River Cess Legislative Caucus is caused by Senator Geevon-Smith who has refused to maintain a good working relationship with the current leadership of the caucus.

Tequah revealed that since stepping down as the head of the caucus, Senator Geevon-Smith has not attended any meetings called by the new leadership to address issues affecting the county.

Despite being given the authority to represent the caucus at public events, Tequah claimed that Senator Geevon-Smith continues to undermine the caucus’ work. He accused the Senator of making decisions without consulting the caucus.

When contacted, Senator Wellington Geevon-Smith refuted the allegation and questioned Representative Tequah’s understanding of creating conflict within the Legislative Caucus.

He said he never refused to honor a call for a meeting of the River Cess Legislative Caucus, nor did he make unilateral decisions on behalf of the caucus.

In 2024, Senator Geevon-Smith stepped down as head of the River Cess Legislative Caucus less than a year after taking over from former Representative Rosana Shark.

Senator Smith campaigned in 2020 on a platform of unity within the River Cess Legislative Caucus, but his leadership has been marked by disunity and controversy, particularly surrounding the recommendations for local government appointments.
