The Government of Liberia has announced a bounty of US$5,000 for anyone who provides relevant information regarding the fire incident at the Capitol Building in Monrovia.
Speaking Wednesday, December 18, 2024, during a special press briefing, Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah said the money is available for anyone with credible information that will lead to real action.
“If you know something about it and choose to remain silent, when something goes wrong we are going to be right here and not somewhere else,” he said.
The Minister made this latest revelation while responding to Tuesday, December 17, 2024 clash between protesters and the Liberia National which he said some Newspapers are using pictures from Freetown to suggest that the incident was a bloody one.
He said due to the misleading nature of the information, the government had to clarify to the public as it became a banner headline for a major newspaper in the country.
He called on the media to report with their conscience, report with facts and stop the act of intentional destruction. Minister Piah said it was unfortunate that citizens would take to the streets to protest without permission from the government.
He said the government stands ready to protect the lives and properties of Liberians; as such, it will not allow people to undermine the peace of the country.
According to him, no live bullets were fired during the protest staged by some Liberians around the Capitol Building on Tuesday as reported by some media entities.
