After five months of suspension, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has finally released Abraham Kromah and Hassan Fatiga of their posts of Director General and Deputy Director General of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), nominating Mr. Anthony Suoh as new head of the agency.

In an Executive Mansion release issued on Friday, November 1, 2024, President Boakai officially relieved Colonel Abraham Kromah, Mr. Hassan Fadiga, and Mr. Gbawou Kowou of their respective positions as Director General, Deputy Director General for Operations, and Deputy Director General for Administration of the LDEA.

This decision follows a report submitted by the Ministry of Justice on an investigation conducted on the events that transpired at the LDEA headquarters on June 3, 2024 that led to their suspension.

President Boakai said “the acts of disorder and chaos that took place at the headquarters of the LDEA were unacceptable,” and such actions jeopardize public peace and weaken the government’s efforts in combating illicit drugs.

In light of these developments, President Boakai is calling on all appointed officials within the government to adhere to the highest standards of diligence, commitment, integrity, professionalism, and loyalty in their service to the nation.

Meanwhile, the appointment of the new LDEA boss is subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate. It can be recalled that in June of this year, Boakai suspended several former officials of the Liberian Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) due to “acts of disorder and chaos” among the leadership responsible for combating illicit drugs.

Then Director General Kromah and his immediate Deputy Fatiga were engaged in a fist fight that led to the disruption of activities at the agency causing pandemonium amongst citizens, leaving the government to launch an investigation into the matter.
