The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of State has filed a lawsuit against the Green Park Management seeking to repossess all parks across the country.

Speaking Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing, Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah said the government’s’ action is based on a General Auditing Commission (GAC) report that revealed an agreement between the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) and Green Park Management to manage all parks across the country for twenty years.

Minister Piah said the parks were constructed during the past administration under the Ministry of State Special Presidential Project.

The parks, including the  Unification Park, Invisible Park, Doe Community Park, New Kru Town Park, and Westpoint Park, were  verbally turned over to the Monrovia City Cooperation that later entered into a  twenty years management contract with the Green Park Management.

The minister said the company is owned by a man identified as Wilfred Paul with 60% share, and a lady Fatu Kromah with 40 % share, but questioned the proximity between the time the company was established to the time the agreement with the MCC was signed.

He said the company was established on August 23, 2023, and wondered how the agreement for the management of the parks could be signed with the company on September 1, 2023, as the time interval is relatively close and raises concerns.

Minister Piah said the company has shown no record of competence or experience in park management or any other business for that matter.

“It appears that the company was established for the sole purpose of managing the parks to get money from the Liberian people into private banks,” he said.

Minister Piah said the GAC audit has found that the entire arrangement surrounding these state-owned parks are faulty and advised the government to reclaim the parks.

He said under the current arrangement, most of the money generated would be retained by the Green Park Management, and the Liberian people whose monies were used to build these parks get nothing.
