A man identified as Prince H. Bright, aged 40, has been apprehended by the Legal Team of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) following a tip-off.
Suspect Bright was arrested in Logan Town while in possession of a fake LEC’s ID card, a branded helmet and motorbike with LEC’s logo, and other equipment believed to be used as gear to impersonate as LEC staff and deceive unsuspecting customers.
According to an LEC statement, the initial investigation proves that suspect Bright has been involved in fraudulent activities, including illegally connecting and disconnecting customers and extorting money.
During the investigation, it was uncovered that the suspect had been involved in tampering with LEC infrastructure, posing risks to public safety and the company’s resources.
Suspect Bright is currently in police custody at the Liberia National Police Headquarters and is expected to be brought before a court of competent jurisdiction to face charges.
Authorities have stated that he will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law to deter such activities and ensure justice. The Power Theft Law classifies all forms of power theft as Second-degree Felony in Liberia.
The law also states that offenders shall serve jail terms of 2-7 years and pay fines ranging from US$400-US$1,000 if found guilty.
