President Joseph N. Boakai on Friday, October 25, 2024, toured and initiated the construction of a US$150 million recreational park in Marshall City, lower Margibi County.

The would-be park is expected to be situated at the bay mouth of the Farmington River and the Atlantic Ocean, in Marshall City.

Speaking to reporters, the President’s Advisor on National Infrastructure, Joe Jane Mulbah, said that the construction of a US$150 million facility is demonstration President Boakai’s love for people and the children of Liberia.

He said the park, named “Kalawanda”, a derivative of the Kissi dialect, when interpreted means “Love for the people,” and the project is the president’s way of providing an opportunity to every Liberian child to have what most Liberians did not experience as children growing up.

“There is going to be a swing, park, merry-go-round and a lot of things for children just like Disney World in the USA,” Mulbah said.

Mulbah said the park will cover seventy acres of land and will be an eye-opener for the tourism sector of Liberia that will contain convention center, villa, hotel and a harbor for boats.

Boakai’s Advisor: “It will be a full bloom park that will be jetted into the sea with hotels, villas, and convention centers. This will be a window to open our tourism sector in the country.”

He said the project will be formally opened in December 2025, but initially, will be accessible to children in December of 2024 for the Christmas party with the president.

He said the park is a presidential project not sponsored by the government, but friends of the president residing in other parts of the world.
