Liberia will join the rest of the world on Friday, September 27, 2024, to celebrate World Tourism Day in Grand Bassa County. Speaking Tuesday, September 24, 2024, Deputy Minister for Cultural Affairs and Tourism Kadiatu D. Konteh-Brohini said the theme for this year’s celebration is “Tourism and Peace.”

Deputy Minster Brohini said theme alliance outlines the Government of Liberia goals for promoting peace and reconciliation in the post conflict era, and highlights the power of tourism in facilitating peaceful interactions between individuals from diverse backgrounds and nations.

Deputy Minister Brohini said the importance of World Tourism Day is that it attracts international tourists and boosts its economy, and year’s celebrations will be in Grand Bassa spotlighting its beaches and other historical landmarks. “World Tourism Day 2024 will emphasize the importance of responsible tourism and support local livelihoods, while preserving Liberia’s natural beauty for future generations,” she said.

Borhini said the Ministry of Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism, in collaboration with local authorities in Grand Bassa County, has organized series of events leading up to the main event. She said there will be stakeholder engagements and close coordination with local authorities, business owners and community members of the county ahead of the official celebration.

The Deputy Minister said there will be cultural and traditional preferences during the event, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Grand Bassa, and tourists and attendees will be taken on a guided tour before and after the program.
