Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah has termed the violent action of citizens in the municipal borough of New Kru Town on Monday, August 19, 2024 as unacceptable and lawless. It can be recalled during the official taking of office by Robert Teah as Governor of the Borough on Monday, August 19, the ceremony turned violent with three persons sustaining injuries including OK FM reporter Morris Wleh-Tee.

Elders of the Borough created uproar resisting the official seating of Governor Teah. Addressing Information Ministry regular press briefing Tuesday, August 20, 2024, Minister Piah said the Constitution of Liberia gives power to the President to appoint certain categories of public officials, and it is wrong for a group of people to determine that the action by the president to appoint a governor is unlawful.

“If you sincerely believe that something is unlawful but your action is more unlawful, then what moral ground do you have to talk about something being unlawful,” Minister Piah asked.

Piah frowned at the elders of New Kru Town for not seeking lawful redress to their dissatisfaction, but instead reverting to violence and causing trouble for citizens in the Borough.

He said the Government of Liberia is angry over the increasing wave of lawlessness in the country and wants citizens to rethink before government reaches a point where it would be forced to execute the law in cases of lawlessness.
