Over forty aggrieved entertainers of Unity Party under the banner “Rescue Artists,” have expressed serious disappointment in the Boakai-Koung administration over abandonment regarding jobs inclusion.
The group previously named and styled “All Stars Movement” for President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, is a glomeration of musicians, filmmakers and stage comedians who campaigned for the Unity Party during the 2017 and 2023 Elections.
On their own expense, they recorded songs, promotional skits and transported themselves to different campaign rallies for the success of now President Boakai.
These songs and skits transcended beyond borders and clearly defined the “ARREST” agenda which drew people’s attention to the appalling reality that there was a need for change.
Addressing a major press conference in Monrovia over the weekend, the Spokesperson of the group, Adbul-Karim Sheriff said 4-5 hours before the arrival of the campaign team, they would be on ground entertaining thousands of supporters with their melodious songs which melted the hearts of millions that they could dance under the rain without feeling tired.
He said based on their efforts, President Boakai’s son, Tan-Tan Boakai, promised them jobs upon his fathers’ ascendency of the Executive Mansion once their CVs are received.
However, Sheriff laments that to their outmost surprise after the elections in November, they were invited over by Madam Morie Y. Nemah, the then liaison between they and Boakai, where she questioned the importance of their role played in the electoral process.
“Some of us who have BSCs, AAs, professional certificates, and are experienced in the private sector, asked for job employment as other asked for scholarships to further their education. Madam Nemah arranged a meeting with us and President Boakai upon his returned from the United States,” he said.
Sheriff narrates that during the meeting with President Boakai, they restated their interests and were instructed to work on their CVs and send same to Madam Nemah, but couldn’t get any feedback even after they had executed the instruction.
“We approached her and the shocking response she gave us shows that it was the beginning of things turning apart. Till date, Sis Morie and Lauren are yet to get to us concerning the mandate given by the President. On numerous occasions, we called and texted her and even went at her house but she has refused to see us or talk to us,” Sheriff told journalists.
He said they also reached out to Madam Mamaka Bilityconcerning their plights, then the party Chairman Luther Tarpeh, Corina Kruah-Tokpah, Mcdella Cooper and UP Secretary General now LPRC boss, Amos Tweh, but are yet to get any favorable response.
The group’s spokesperson said they want the Liberian leader to see the need to look into their plights because they are equally competent to serve the nation.
“Some remarks made to us would have caused us to take the radical approach but as intelligent as we are, we are resolved that violence is not the way. We fought for the success of this party; we will still fight to uphold the peace of this nation,” he noted.
