For the first time in the history of the fisheries sector, the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority, (NaFAA) has launched its “Go-Live Integrated Workflow Management System”.

The Go-Live Management System is intended to reduce paper usage and a move that aligns with global sustainability goals and reflects their responsibility towards the conservation of the entity marine ecosystems.
NaFAA new Management system is not just a technology leap, it is a symbol of its collective dedication to progress, transparency and the sustainable management of aquatic resources.

The Go-Live system was developed by a consulting and technology group called “MWETANA.”
Speaking at the launch on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at NaFAA head office in Monrovia, the Deputy Director General for Administration, Augustine M. Manoballah said the Go-Live Management system is not just a technological upgrade, it is a fundamental reimagining of how the entity operate and serve the nation’s fisheries and aquaculture sector.
Manoballah noted that the system is a testament of NaFAA’s commitment to innovation and progress.

“We have embarked on a journey that many organizations talk about, but few have the courage to undertake. By moving to an electronic data management system, we are not only keeping pace with the digital revolution but joined a very few in setting a new standard for government agencies in Liberia,” he said.

According to Director Manoballah, the benefits of the new system are manifold; adding that beyond the immediate efficiencies in licensing and permit issuance, the institution will see long-term gains in the form of data analytic and strategic insights that were previously unattainable.

He explained “Imagine a future where our fisher folks, our stakeholders, and our partners engage with us seamlessly, where transparency is not just an ideal but a daily reality. This is what our collaboration with Mwetana has made possible.”

Manoballah revealed that the consulting firm’s dedication to NaFAA’s vision has been unwavering, and their expertise invaluable.

He said they have built a system that is robust, user-friendly, and tailored to the unique needs of our industry.
He indicated that with the new Go-Live Management System, NaFAA has the capability to make informed decisions based on real-time data, to monitor the resources more effectively, and to respond swiftly to the needs of community.

“For years, our operations have been anchored in traditional, paper-intensive processes. While these methods have served their purpose, they have not been without challenges. Delays, manual errors, and a lack of real-time data have often hindered our responsiveness and efficiency,” he stated.

Manoballah explained that the Go-Live Integrated Workflow Management System is more than just a technological advancement; it is a cultural shift within NaFAA. He applauded the World Bank for the funding.
