The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has broken ground for a US$350,000 electricity expansion project to extend power access to communities in Bong County’s Electoral Districts One and Two, along the Borbor Fayahta–Siansue corridor. Funded through Liberia’s 2026 national budget, the project is expected to be completed by the end of November 2026. It will be implemented by EGAP BTO-LIBERIA INC.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, LEC Head of Rural Electrification Murphy M. Gibson Sr. described the initiative as a major step towards expanding electricity access in rural communities.

Also speaking, Bong County Senator Prince Kermue Moye Sr. urged officials to ensure that all targeted communities benefit from the taxpayer-funded project, while Deputy Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Bill McGill Jones called on residents to cooperate with the contractor and protect construction materials.

Residents have welcomed the initiative, with some landowners agreeing to allow portions of their cash crops to be cleared to make way for power lines and related infrastructure. Once completed, the project is expected to improve living conditions, support local businesses and strengthen public service delivery across the targeted communities.
