The Reporters Association of Liberia (RAL) over the weekend, inducted a new corps of officers, with President Webster Clayeh pledging to lead a renewed era for the profession centered on Inclusion, Welfare, and Reform. Delivering his inaugural address, President Clayeh said the occasion marked more than a change of leadership. “It marked the start of a collective commitment to strengthen the Association,” he stated.
President Clayeh highlighted the daily risks Liberian journalists face. He said reporters work under immense pressure, covering elections, legislative debates, court proceedings, emergencies, and community issues, while confronting intimidation, harassment, poor conditions, and physical assault.
“Yet, despite our immense contribution to nation-building, many reporters remain among the least protected professionals in Liberia. This reality must change!” he declared. He emphasized that the new administration will focus on unity, professional development, members’ welfare, and restoring the dignity of the Liberian reporter.
“Tonight is not about one individual or one newsroom. It is about every Liberian reporter whose dedication informs our people, strengthens our democracy, and preserves our history,” he added. The inducted leadership of the Reporters Association of Liberia includes, Webster Clayeh-President, Kruh Thompson-Vice President, Blamo Toe–Secretary General, Cynthia Qunister Financial Secretary and Princess Kamera-Assistant Secretary.
The event brought together reporters from across Liberia. In attendance were the President of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), government officials, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Liberia.
