Ahead of Liberia’s 179th Independence Day celebration which is to be hosted in the port city of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, the county’s Joint Security has kicked off a major city‑wide sanitation drive as Buchanan prepares to host Liberia’s 179th Independence Day celebrations.
Personnel cleared streets and public areas, while urging residents and business operators to clear debris and remove obstructions from sidewalks and roads. County Police Commander ACP Fasu Sheriff noted the exercise is part of broader efforts to ensure safety and order, calling on all citizens to take shared responsibility for keeping the capital clean and welcoming for the thousands of expected visitors.
President Joseph Boakai designated Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County, as the host for Liberia’s 179th Independence Day celebration. The observance, which falls on July 26, 2026, aims to promote national decentralization, unity, and development throughout the country. Preparations for the national festivities in the port city of Buchanan are actively underway.
President Boakai is scheduled to commission several key development projects in the county, including a landmark electricity project that aims to improve local businesses and evening activities. Grand Bassa County officials and the Joint Security team have launched comprehensive clean-up and sanitation campaigns to ensure the city is safe and welcoming for thousands of expected visitors.
Government delegations, including officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, have inspected various rehabilitation and construction sites across the county such as the Administrative Building and Multilateral High School to evaluate progress.
