Civil Service Agency Director General Dr. Josiah Joekai has disclosed during the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing that all 304 employees of ELWA Hospital have now been transitioned to the Government Central Payroll following President Joseph Boakai’s mandate.
Dr. Joekai further confirmed that the employees received their salaries as of April 2026.
The Government of Liberia has completed the integration of 304 ELWA Hospital staff onto the national payroll, with salaries for April 2026 successfully processed, following a directive from President Joseph Boakai. This intervention, aimed at preventing the private facility’s financial collapse and ensuring uninterrupted services, was finalized in April 2026 with a $1.4 million allocation to cover payroll expenses.
Personnel Covered include all 304 staff members of the ELWA Hospital, who were transferred to the Central Payroll System. Employees received their first government salaries for April 2026.
The government provided $1.4 million in the supplementary budget to facilitate this integration to prevent the collapse of the facility, which had recently faced a “go-slow” protest by workers over pay, and to ensure stable healthcare delivery.
Civil Service Agency (CSA) Director General Dr. Josiah Joekai confirmed the finalization of the process, indicating the government’s commitment to supporting the health sector. This move follows recent efforts by the government, including the employment of 600 healthcare volunteers across various institutions, to strengthen the nationwide health workforce.
