The Managing Director of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), Mohammed M. Sheriff, has been summoned by the House of Representatives to appear before its leadership next Monday over the country’s persistent electricity problems.
The decision followed concerns raised by Montserrado County District #8 Representative Prince A. Toles, who accused the Liberia Electricity Corporation of failing to deliver on promises to improve stable power supply nationwide.
Lawmakers say that despite commitments made during his Senate confirmation hearing, businesses, hospitals, schools, and homes continue to experience frequent power interruptions across the country.
The House leadership is expected to question the LEC boss on the causes of the ongoing outages, challenges facing the corporation, and measures being taken to restore reliable electricity services nationwide.
