President Boakai Joseph N. Boakai says he will direct the Ministry of Education to review the current high school curriculum with the intent to include compulsory basic computer skills training.

Speaking recently at the launch of the Liberia Digital Transformation Project at EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, the President said high school graduates are already computer literate by the time they leave high school; adding that the inclusion of compulsory basic computer skills training in the various high schools will enable young people to be capable of working in the digital space.

“The future of Liberia is undeniably bright. With a digitally empowered workforce and a thriving ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship, Liberia will be poised to compete and collaborate on the global stage,” he noted.

President Boakai narrated that from smart cities and sustainable development to digital inclusion and social empowerment, the possibilities are limitless.

“By embracing digital transformation today, we are laying the foundation for a prosperous and equitable future for generations to come,” he assured.

As a way of making the initiative effective, Boakai has asked the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning to work with the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, and the LTA to develop a roadmap and regulatory framework for the digital economy.

The Liberian leader also encouraged government stakeholders and the business community, especially banks and mobile payment companies to accelerate the use of digital payments so that by the end of this year a significant volume of payments will be done digitally.

He added that digital transactions will bring efficiency, speed and transparency to the financial sector and regulators like the Central Bank and the Financial Intelligence Agency.

President Boakai explained that digital transformation is not just about embracing new technologies but rather it is about revolutionizing the way business is done and creating value.

Boakai indicated that by embracing digital innovation, Liberia can unlock new sources of economic growth and job creation.
