President Joseph N. Boakai through his Vice President, Jeremiah Kpan Koung, says his administration will work with the Catholic Church in Liberia to push the word of God.
Speaking over the weekend during the ordination of the Very Rev. Gabriel Blamo Jubwe in Monrovia, Vice President Koung said, “The President has asked me to say congratulations and he looks forward to working with you so that he can help this church and help the word of God to go forth.”
According to Koung, President Boakai also extended thanks to Pope Francis and the leader of the Catholic Church in Liberia and around the region for preferring Rev. Jubwe to be the Archbishop of Monrovia.
The Vice President applauded the congregation, Bishops and leaders of the Catholic Church around Africa for visiting Liberia to attend the ordination ceremony.
For his part, Archbishop Jubwe has vowed to reform the church and engage with the country’s authorities to foster national unity and promote social and economic development for the well-being of Liberians.
The newly ordained Catholic Archbishop stated that his priorities align with the church’s mission of salvation, peace and reconciliation.
The Archbishop of Monrovia also promised to be a selfless leader who would reconcile and unite the Church in Liberia, pursue healing and national unity.
He explained that under his reign, the Church would be open to serving as guardian and good counsel to the country’s political leadership.
“We assure you that together we can restore the hopes and the various aspirations of our people throughout the country,” Archbishop Jubwe said.
The ordination of Archbishop Jubwe means that he has filled the position left vacant by the retirement and subsequent passing of his predecessor, Lewis Jerome Zeigler in August 2022. On February 28, 2024, Pope Francis named Jubwe as head of the Catholic Church in Liberia.
