The Government of Liberia has broken ground for the Robertsport Hospitality and Tourism Training Center, a major step toward strengthening the town’s growing tourism sector. Speaking at the ceremony, Education Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah highlighted that while tourism is increasing, local communities are not fully benefiting. The new center aims to change that by training young people in hospitality, eco-tourism, and small business development.
Supported by the European Union and partners, the project is expected to be completed within nine months and is designed to create real job opportunities and sustainable livelihoods for residents of Robertsport.
Liberia’s tourism industry is an emerging sector focused on eco-tourism and adventure, marketing itself as “Amazing Discoveries” to highlight untouched rainforests, 570km of Atlantic coastline, and rich cultural heritage.
Currently in the early stages, the sector is being revitalized under the Liberia National Tourism Authority (LNTA) to foster economic growth and sustainability. Robertsport is the premier surfing destination, with additional beaches in Montserrado and Sinoe counties.
Sapo National Park and the East Nimba Nature Reserve offer biodiversity, including the rare pygmy hippopotamus. Providence Island (historical landing site), the National Museum in Monrovia, and local crafts/quilting. Hiking, fishing, and boating on Lake Piso, the country’s largest lake.
