A technical team from the Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) is engaging directly with citizens in Gbarpolu County this week as part of a review of ENERGICITY’s concession, prompted by complaints regarding service delivery issues.

According to a report from Rescue TV, the field mission includes visits to communities such as Totoquelleh, Smith Town, Weasua, Henry’s Town, Farwhenta, and Gbarma. These visits address concerns about power supply gaps, high prices, and fixed charges in the new tariff that remain in effect even when service is intermittent.

Inspectors are documenting outages, inspecting power lines, and meeting with locals to distinguish between the company’s excuses and actual system constraints. The LERC is also providing a platform for local radio broadcasts and recording testimonies, helping to build trust as citizens see their voices represented in this process.

The Commission is involving county officials, ENERGICITY management, and, importantly, the Liberia Electricity Corporation Authority to draw comparisons between rural and urban practices. The report states that rural electrification influences the political landscape for concessions across the country. Documented solutions, transformer replacements, tariff clarifications, and timelines for work orders will provide a framework for Monrovia, while inaction offers critics a platform.

The LERC has committed to publishing a report detailing the findings of the mission, ENERGICITY’s response plan, and setting quarterly checkpoints. For now, households can at least feel assured that their meter readings and frustrations have been officially recorded. Source Rescue TV/News
