President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., will, tomorrow, March 26, 2026, officially launch a bold and results-driven 365-Day National Action Plan aimed at accelerating the reduction of maternal and newborn mortality across the country.

According to an Executive Mansion March 25, 2026 release, the initiative is the Government’s way of safeguarding the lives of Liberian women and children, while strengthening the national health system to deliver quality, equitable, and accessible healthcare services for all. Despite steady progress in recent years, maternal and newborn mortality remain pressing public health challenges.

The 365-day plan focuses on high-impact, measurable interventions, including:

  • Strengthening emergency obstetric and newborn care services across all health facilities;
  • Ensuring every delivery is attended by trained health professionals;
  • Training and deploying additional midwives and frontline health workers, particularly in rural and underserved communities;
  • Guaranteeing the availability of essential medicines, equipment, and lifesaving commodities;
  • Improving referral systems, including transportation and communication for timely access to care;
  • Promoting community awareness to encourage early antenatal care, facility-based deliveries, and postnatal care;
  • Enhancing data systems for improved monitoring, accountability, and performance tracking.

The Ministry of Health will lead coordination efforts to ensure effective execution nationwide. The Government will institute regular performance reviews to track progress, address bottlenecks, and ensure accountability. Clear targets have been established to drive measurable reductions in maternal and newborn mortality within the 365-day implementation period.

The launch of the 365-Day National Action Plan will mark a significant milestone in Liberia’s pursuit of Universal Health Coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals related to maternal and child health. The launching ceremony will take place in the Conference Room of the Ministry of Health in Congo Town.
