The Women Situation Room (WSR) with support from the Angie Brooks International Centre over the weekend hosted a unity sporting game for women in Montserrado and adjacent parts.
Speaking at the Invisible Sports Park, WSR project finance officer Jesse Tolker said the game was part of activities of the three-day Women’s Political Mediation and Peace Dialogue held recently At Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to him, this game was simultaneously played in Montserrado, Grand Cape Mount, Bong, Nimba and Counties.
The three-day dialogue focused on promoting peaceful Electoral Environment and Community Security in Liberia, the substantial roles youth played to the overall conduct of elections and delved deep into some of the issues identified and captured by the observations of stakeholders on how to address matters.

The dialogue was attended government officials, stakeholders, women from political parties, civil society, independent candidates, the media, local traditional leadership, religious leadership, security forces, and community leaders, among others.

Tolker further stated that the program was interactive, where the women of Liberia expressed their experiences and challenges encountered during the just ended election.

He was grateful that the program was successful and called on all participants to go back in their various communities and be ambassadors of spreading the message of peace.

During the civil war, while people were fighting in the country, he said former President George Manneh Weah and others were out there flying the flag of Liberia through sport, describing sports as a unifying force.
“With sport, people put political parties aside, focus on the game and serve the purpose for which they gather,”Tolker said.
