As thousands of partisans and supporters gathered over the weekend for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) headquarters in Congo Town, CDC Political Leader George M. Weah urged attendees to see themselves as builders, while criticizing the ruling government as breakers.

He emphasized that the CDC is a leader in development and that others should follow their example. Weah stated that the party must work diligently to serve the Liberian people, who are counting on them to free them from the clutches of charlatans and mountebanks. “CDC is not defined by the walls of a structure; it lives in our hearts and minds. You can destroy the bricks and the walls, but we will remain steadfast in our love and commitment to the ideals of our beloved institution. The party is supreme; the CDC is supreme,” Weah declared.

He appointed Professor Nidan L. Hage as the head of the construction team for the new CDC headquarters. During the colorful ceremony on Saturday, October 18, 2025, a new ‘sycamore tree’ ( a symbol of gathering that once existed in its pervouus headquarters which was demolished recently), was presented to Weah to be planted as a living symbol of continuity.

Partisans expressed their belief that this groundbreaking ceremony marked a turning point for the party, with many seen standing among trees to be part of the festivities.

Analysts suggest that the ceremony has reignited excitement among the party’s base and could signal the start of a strategic buildup toward the 2029 elections. Notably, Senator Edwin Snowe and Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah, along with other opposition members, were present at the event.

Construction Committee Chairman J. Fonati Koffa described the new complex as a sophisticated structure that will symbolize resilience, proclaiming that “truth crushed to the ground will rise again.” Koffa shared an anecdote about a conversation with a friend from the Unity Party (UP), expressing a refusal to pursue power characterized by lying, stealing, and exploitation.

Senator Edwin Snowe expressed his enthusiasm for the event, joining the Opposition Unity for 2029, clarifying that he is not a member of the CDC. He pledged $10,000 and committed to supporting the party’s efforts every step of the way. Senator Nathaniel McGill announced that the CDC Legislative Caucus has pledged over $100,000 toward the construction of the headquarters, with each CDC lawmaker committing $5,000. Montserrado County District #14 Representative Muka Kamara promised to exceed that amount by contributing $15,000.

Former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor also donated $5,000 to the CDC headquarters project. As thousands of partisans and supporters gathered for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) headquarters in Congo Town, CDC Political Leader George M. It can be recalled that in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 23, 2025, sheriffs, accompanied by heavily armed policemen, were seen enforcing an eviction order using earth-moving equipment to destroy structures hosting the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), thereby making the main opposition party homeless.

The eviction of CDC from their Congo Town headquarters followed months of legal battle over ownership of the property. An August 13, 2025 ruling by the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court, awarded the 4.23-acre compound near Bernard’s Beach to the Intestate Estate of Martha Stubblefield Bernard. Judge George W. Smith ruled that the CDC had no legal claim to the property after reviewing deeds and boundaries, directing the Montserrado County Sheriff to carry out the eviction.
