Gbarpolu County Elections Magistrate, Ernest K. McCay, has said that education serves as a powerful bridge—one that can take people from where they are to where they aspire to be. Speaking when he delivered the keynote speech at the Bishop Stephen T. Y. Benda United Pentecostal School 2024/ 2025 Closing and Graduation Program in Bopolu City, Gbarpolu County on Friday, July 18, 2025, Magistrate McCkay said education is a pathway that opens doors to numerous opportunities.

According to him, with a solid educational foundation, graduates can navigate the complexities of life, explore diverse career avenues, and contribute meaningfully to society. Speaking on the Topic- Education: “A Bridge To Many Golden Opportunities,” he said, ‘‘Whether you want to become a scientist, artist, entrepreneur, educator, or leader, education equips you with the tools to succeed. It cultivates critical thinking, innovation, and the ability to adapt to an ever-changing world.’’

Magistrate McCKay told the graduates that as they reflect on education as a bridge to opportunity, they must acknowledge the commitment of their teachers and mentors who have guided them. He said their dedication goes far beyond imparting knowledge; they inspire us to dream big and strive for excellence, saying they have played a vital role in shaping not only their academic success but also their character.

‘‘To our teachers, thank you for being the architects of our future and for believing in us even when we doubted ourselves. Moreover, the importance of support systems cannot be overstated. Parents and guardians, your unwavering encouragement and sacrifices have laid the groundwork for our accomplishments. You have taught us the value of perseverance and resilience, showing us that challenges can be overcome. Without your support, we would not be here today,’’ he stated.

As the graduates prepare to embark on new adventures, Magistrate McCkay asserted that families must continue fostering a love for learning and curiosity about the world. ‘‘To the graduates, as you carry your diplomas with pride, remember that education is not merely a destination but a lifelong journey. The world will continue to evolve, and new opportunities will emerge.

Embrace change, seek knowledge, and stay curious. The skills and insights you have gained during your time here will serve you well in both your personal and professional lives.’’ ‘‘In this era of globalization, the ability to connect with diverse cultures and perspectives is paramount. Education allows us to understand and appreciate the richness of our differences. It teaches us empathy and compassion, essential qualities for collaboration and teamwork. As you move forward, I urge you to build bridges between communities, ideas, and nations. The more connected we are, the more opportunities we can unlock together,’’ Magistrate McCkay continued.

‘‘However, with great opportunity comes great responsibility. Every accomplishment carries an obligation to give back to your communities, school, and nation, and help those who are less fortunate. Use your education to advocate for social justice, environmental stewardship, and ethical leadership. Remember that the true measure of success is not just personal achievement but the positive impact you can make on others’ lives.’’

‘‘As we celebrate today’s achievements, let us not forget that this is just the beginning. The most rewarding chapters of your lives are yet to be written. Embrace challenges with courage. When faced with obstacles, remember the countless hours of study, the nights spent preparing, and the sacrifices made to reach this point. Use these experiences as motivation to continue striving for your goals,’’ he pointed out.

Meanwhile, Magistrate McCkay encouraged all parents, guardians, and sponsors to remain involved in the lives of these young graduates. ‘‘Your guidance and support will continue to be invaluable as they navigate their futures. Encourage them to pursue further education and lifelong learning. Invest in their dreams, celebrate their achievements, and help them build a network of mentors and peers. Together, we can ensure that education remains a bridge to golden opportunities, not only for this generation but for many generations to come.’’

‘‘Thank you, and congratulations to the graduating class of 2025/2026. May your futures be bright, your journeys fulfilling, and your contributions impactful. Let us continue to build bridges through education, making the world a better place for everyone,’’ he concluded.
