As USAID winds down its operations in Liberia, the agency has donated a range of office equipment to the Office for the Establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court for Liberia (OWECC-L).
According to a release dated May 7, 2025, the donation includes a four-wheel-drive Toyota SUV, four desktop computers, a high-capacity laser jet printer, stationery supplies, and video and still cameras, among other items.
During the handover ceremony on Wednesday, May 7, USAID Chief of Party Steve Terravecchia commended OWECC-L for its dedication to promoting justice and accountability—particularly in its efforts to seek redress for war and economic crimes.
He encouraged the Office to maintain its momentum in building legal and institutional frameworks, emphasizing that visible progress fosters public trust and demonstrates a strong commitment to the rule of law.
Mr. Terravecchia also highlighted the importance of continued efforts to establish a credible, independent court as a critical step toward truth, reconciliation, and sustainable justice in Liberia.
Receiving the items, OWECC-L Executive Director Dr. Cllr. Jallah A. Barbu expressed sincere gratitude to USAID for its continued support in strengthening Liberia’s justice system.
He noted that the donation represents a meaningful contribution toward promoting accountability, reinforcing the rule of law, and protecting human rights.
Dr. Barbu emphasized that strong international partnerships are essential to advancing Liberia’s post-conflict recovery and transitional justice agenda.
He assured USAID and the American people that the donated equipment would be used effectively and for its intended purpose.
