Margibi County Senator, Nathaniel F. McGill has secured US$600,000 allocation in the 2024 National Budget for reconstruction of the CH Rennie Hospital in Kakata, Margibi County.
The breakthrough for the health center followed Senator McGill’s impassioned pleas to Senate Pro-tempore, Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence on April 24, 2024 in a communication where he highlighted the urgent need for the inclusion of the CH Rennie Hospital in the National Budget.
Senator McGill urged his legislative colleagues, especially the Senate Joint Committee on Ways, Means, Finance, Budget and Public Accounts and Audits, to consider allocating at least US$1,000,000 towards the major health facility in the county.
In a positive turn of events, on April 30, 2024, the Liberian Senate acted decisively, passing the 2024 National Budget with a significant allocation of US$600,000 specifically designated for the reconstruction of CH Rennie Hospital.
This milestone achievement reflects Senator McGill’s unwavering dedication to improving healthcare infrastructure, marking a pivotal step towards ensuring the delivery of quality healthcare services to those in need through lobby and legislative influence.
The Senator, prior to the success of his advocacy aimed at making funds available for reconstructing the hospital which was gutted by fire last year, had vowed to not vote for the passing of the budget if the Senate had not considered his plea.
During the Tuesday, April 30, 2024 session, Senator McGill was among the 26 Senators who unanimously voted on record for that august body to concur with the House of Representatives to pass the 2024 Budget.
The budget has been forwarded to the Office of the President for approval.
