As the Boakai Administration faces challenge in the fight against corruption, United States new Ambassador to Liberia has promised to join efforts with the government in combating the menace. Mark Toner assured that the United States will work with Liberia in the fight against corruption. Ambassador Toner made the statement Monday, August 19, 2024 following a closed door meeting with Information Minister, Jerolinmek M. Piah when he paid a courtesy visit.

He said there is a long history of transparency and open governance between both countries, but these tendencies faced challenges in the past. “Government wants to address some of the crimes in the past and I’m very positive and optimistic and looking forward to see how we can support that effort,” he said.

Ambassador Toner said the conversation between he and Minister Piah was good, and centered on a wide range of issues and challenges, along with some of the areas that need cooperation. For his part, Minister Piah said U.S Ambassador Toner’s courtesy visit to the ministry was concerned with wide range of issue concerning Liberia and the relationship between both countries.

Minister Piah said he also spoke with the ambassador on the fight against corruption, question of accountability on War and Economic Crimes Court as well as the economic situation on investors coming into country to create job opportunities.
