The President of the Union of Liberian Associations In the Americas (ULAA), the umbrella organization of Liberians living in the United States of America, has highlighted achievement and challenges for the year 2024.
Mr. Mohammed Keita informed the Hot Pepper Newspaper that his organization has been faced with challenges, including financial constraints and limited resources. He said despite the challenges, ULAA’s leadership remains robust and financially viable in tackling issues confronting Liberia and has made some significant strides in achieving what was anticipated.
President Keita pointed out ULAA’s service to diaspora communities and at home during which time in 2024 over US$300,000 was raised in pledges and cash.
He said during the year in review, ULAA leadership displayed plans for the proposed multi- purpose complex located in Louisiana, Liberia, and initiated fundraising efforts.
Still on some achievements made during the period in review, ULAA leadership met with President Joe Biden for the extension of the Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) to 2026 and it was approved by the Biden’s administration.
Majority of Liberians in the United States of America are confronted with legitimate documents issues, for which this extension of the DED is a welcoming development for them, among others.
Disclosing plans for 2025, he said ULAA will encompass a three – day event which include: A forum on Out- of- Country voting on April 26, 2025, a fundraising program and the ground breaking ceremony for the Multi- purpose complex on April 27, 2025.
Moreover, during this time of the year, ULAA’s officials’ presence in the country will use the opportunity to officially register ULAA in Liberia as a legitimate organization from the United States of America, as well as the establishment of a new bank for ULAA social services in Liberia.
When questioned about all of these latest developments from ULAA, President Keita responded by saying that ULAA development at home represents their commitment to addressing issues affecting Liberia.
