The U.S. Embassy in Monrovia has welcomed the recent action by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to arrest and remove a fugitive wanted in Liberia for producing and selling fraudulent documents.

Eric Sumo is wanted for document fraud in Liberia and charged with fraudulent U.S. visa possession/manufacturing. He is one of three arrests in a Fairfax County, Va., routine daily immigration enforcement operation on April 21, 2025

In press releases, the American Embassy said the operation was conducted in response to a Liberian INTERPOL Diffusion, reflecting the strong collaboration between international law enforcement partners.

“We sincerely appreciate the Liberia National Police (LNP) and the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) for their crucial support and cooperation in the case,” the U.S Embassy said.

According to the Embassy, such efforts are vital in protecting the integrity of Liberia’s identity documents and upholding the rule of law.

The U.S Embassy further said it’s committed to continuing collaboration with the LNP and MOJ in future investigations to promote accountability and enhance the security of both nations.
