The National Teachers Association of Liberia (NTAL) has strongly rejected allegations of corruption made against the institution under the leadership of Madam Mary Nyumah.

Recently, a group of due paying members of the National Teachers Association of Liberia filed an eleven-count resolution calling on the leadership to submit itself to an audit in order to ascertain how monies were spent over the last six years.

Speaking during a peaceful demonstration in front of the NTAL on 12th Street in Monrovia, the spokesperson of the group, Lydia Massaquoi, called on the veterans of the NTAL, the Ministry of Education and the Liberia National Police to prevail on the Mary Nyumah leadership to submit to the popular demand for an audit.

The petitioners also requested that their legal counsels to petition the Civil Law Court at the Temple of Justice to write the various banks purposely to freeze all accounts of the NTAL not less than 90 or more than 180 days until full audit and report presented to the representative council of the association in keeping with the organization’s constitution.

But, speaking in a media engagement in Monrovia, Nuymah disclosed that in accordance with the constitution of the NTAL, the leadership of the association has been audited by an auditing firm known as More Monrovia.

According to Madam Nyumah, the Representative Council and the National Executive Committee of the NTAL that authorized the audit are awaiting the report from the auditors.

Commenting on the soliciting of names to impeach her, Madam Nyumah said that the association has a constitution and it outlines channels through which an elected official can be impeached.

The NTALp is therefore warning genuine members of the association against individuals masquerading as leaders of the organization because it will be too late when they are duped by these individuals.
