The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has arrested a 50-year-old Sierra Leona identified as Jahanatu Bangura with 32 plates of compressed marijuana in Kamara Town, Po River. The confiscated drug is said to be valued at US$15,000.
Addressing a press conference recently, LDEA Deputy Director for Operations, Hassan Fadiga said suspect Bangura was arrested during the early hours of Thursday, May 9, 2024 through intelligence. He said the lady has been transporting drugs since 2019.
Fadiga appreciated officers assigned at the Court in Brewerville for what he termed as a job well done.
He claimed that things are getting better in the fight against illegal drugs since they took office at LDEA.
According to him, the lady will be punished and held accountable for her crime warning that LDEA will action against anybody caught with drugs.
Fadiga said LDEA has a new strategy in fighting drugs with a focus on the distributors and traffickers.
He encourages citizens to support LDEA as they continue the fight against drugs.
For his part, LDEA Director General, Abraham Kromah said the arrest of Sierra Leonean drug suspect was a result of the high level of cooperation between the intelligent and operation team.
“I can assure the Liberian people that with the level of arrangement and little logistical support we are getting now, we are going to move ahead gradually and we have deployed men around the coaster areas and they will go after drug traffickers by any means, “ LDEAs Boss said.
He said rehabilitation of drugs users is part of the fight against drugs and they are working with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Gender and the Ministry of Justice to establish a rehabilitation center of their own where they will help in taking young people off the streets.
