Senator Crayton Duncan of Sinoe County says the historical dominance by Americo-Liberians in the political landscape of Liberia has perpetuated inequality and hindered progress.  He called for a more inclusive approach to governance that prioritizes the needs of all Liberians, regardless of their background.

‎‎Speaking Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at the inauguration of officials of the Legislative Press Pool in Monrovia, Duncan urged the newly elected officials to advocate for policies that promote social justice and equitable distribution of resources. He stressed the need for unity among the various ethnic groups in Liberia to overcome the challenges facing the nation.

‎‎Duncan said the media should not go after their black brothers and sisters in the Legislature, leaving international partners and multinational corporations that are stealing the nation’s gold and diamonds.  Instead of reporting on this, he claimed that the media is going after lawmakers. Duncan alleged that 20 percent of the suffering in Liberia is caused by corruption in government, while 80 percent is due to the multinational corporations and international partners who are stealing from the people of Liberia.

Duncan remarks have sparked a debate about the role of historical legacies in contemporary politics and the need for a collective effort to address the systemic issues that continue to affect the country. Critics of his speech argue that blaming a specific group for the country’s problems, is counter-productive and divisive.
