Montserrado County Senator, Saah Joseph is seeking the approval of the Legislature through the Liberian Senate for an emergency budgetary allotment of US$3 Million to purchase and ship 17 fire trucks and accessories to Liberia.
Senator Joseph in a communication to plenary on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 said in recent months, Montserrado County has been besieged by a series of devastating fire outbreaks, resulting in significant loss of lives and properties.
He said as custodians of public welfare and governance, it is imperative that senators collectively address this pressing challenge.
“Additionally, funds are required to cover manpower recruitment and training for the establishment of a comprehensive and adequately resourced National Fire Service Respond Mechanism to cover the 17 districts in Montserrado County,” Senator Joseph said.
He believes that this intervention will address fire prevention and response within Montserrado County.
Joseph added that the intervention would serve to mitigate the risk of future fire incidents and ensure the safety and security of the people.
“I trust in your leadership and commitment to the well-being of all Liberians, and I am confident that your esteemed offices will lend your support to this crucial initiative,” he said.
The Montserrado County Senator said there have been previous discussions with the management of the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) wherein he was informed that they need budgetary support to fight fire disasters.
He said a communication will be sent to President Joseph N. Boakai office for a meeting to discuss the issue of fire outbreak in Montserrado County.
