Despite negotiations by River Cess authorities for Global Logistic Mining Company (GLC) to begin exploration in River Cess County, the youth of Kolor Tree are calling for a review of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the affected communities and the company.
Speaking with our correspondent, the Youth Spokesperson Prince Danwleh accused county authorities of pressuring the affected communities into signing the agreement. According to Danwleh, the company has already started violating the terms of the MOU by failing to fulfill its promises, such as building hand pumps in the affected communities and upgrading the ITI Clinic into a health center.
Meanwhile, a member of the Special Mining Committee, David Bloyougar, told our correspondent that although the committee had requested legal representation before signing the agreement, the entire local leadership was fully aware of all the proposals outlined in the MOU.
He said the document was reviewed by all committee members, as well as the County Superintendent, before being signed by the committee. He also clarified that the initial withdrawal of the Bokon Community from the meeting was not due to the MOU itself, but rather over disagreements regarding job allocations for the affected communities.
