Just two months ago since he resigned as Minister of National Defense, retired Major General Prince C. Johnson, III, has resurfaced in government. He has been nominated as Director of the National Security Agency (NSA) by President Joseph N. Boakai.
In his letter of resignation, Johnson indicated that due to the current political and civil disturbances occasioned by the protest of women believed to be wives of servicemen, he made the decision to resign and preserve the peace and security of the state.
The resignation of Johnson came amidst massive protests at military installations across the country by wives of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL),
When Johnson resigned, President Boakai accepted the resignation with immediate effect. The President and Commander-in-Chief of the AFL at the time, expressed gratitude to Johnson for his invaluable service to the country, describing him as a patriot.
However, it appears that President Boakai has confidence in the work of Gen. Johnson for which he has nominated the retired General to perform in different role.
Others nominated and appointed along with Gen. Johnson include Brigadier General (Retired), Geraldine Janet George as Minister of National Defense and Major General (Retired) Daniel D. Ziankahn as Military Adviser.
J. Henric Pearson, II has been appointed as Director for Passports and Visas with the rank of Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
These appointments by the President where applicable, are subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate, an Executive Mansion release said.
President Boakai called on all those nominated and appointed to continue to demonstrate diligence, commitment, integrity, professionalism, and loyalty in service to the country.
